First Give and Gable Hall School worked in partnership to help young people give back to their communities and speak out for causes they believe in.
Students at the school dedicated time and effort to chosen charities through social action, with one class winning a First Give grant of £1,000 for their charity!
The whole of Year 9 at Gable Hall School in Corringham, Essex, took part in the First Give programme, where students investigated social issues and met with local charities that address those issues in their community.
Students created presentations about their chosen charity, and in classes they planned and carried out fundraising and raising awareness for their cause.
The year 9 finalists took part in the School Final event at Gable Hall School on 15th July 2019. It was a truly special evening where eight teams delivered outstanding professional and emotive
presentations to a room full of parents, charities and a panel of judges.
The Salvation Army in Wickford came away with £1,000. The students’ social action included a silent ice lolly sale to represent and provoke discussion about how the team feel homeless people often don’t have a voice.
Across the full year group the students raised a whopping £2,700 – not including the First Give grant!
Ben Leeson, Marketing Manager at intu Lakeside said: “We are proud to sponsor the First Give programme and see the young people at Gable Hall do such a great job giving back to their community. Their innovative ideas to raise awareness of social issues in the community and fundraise £2,700 is absolutely outstanding! Well done to all the students who participated and a massive congratulations.”
Gable Hall School was one of 140 Greater London schools taking part in the First Give programme this academic year, meaning that over £140,000 will be won for local charities by young people in the area.
