Warning to horse riders ahead of 10k

Event organisers in Rayleigh are warning all the riding stables and livery yards in the Hockley/Rayleigh area of their 10k run on Sunday 7th April, which goes through parts of local woods that we know are also used by horse riders.
John Cuthbertson of the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill said: “The 2019 event will be taking place on Sunday 7th April 2019 and will follow the same route as for the previous two years and so I would really like to make as many of the local riders as I can aware, that if they are riding in the area of Hockley Woods, Grove Woods, Cherry Orchard Park and Gusted Hall on the morning or early afternoon of the Sunday that there will be in the region of 400 to 500 runners in parts of those places.”
“The start and finish will be at Belchamps Scout Activity centre in Hawkwell. The route follows pathways and bridleways through Hockley woods, Grove woods, New England woods, Cherry Orchard park, Bluebell wood and Gusted Hall wood.”
“All horse riders ideally need to find alternative routes for this Sunday. Our aim is to keep everyone safe”
