Thurrock Museum is taking a selection of artefacts on tour around the borough later this year and it’s up to residents to decide which objects make the cut.
Local people can vote for their favourite item out of a shortlist of 10 artefacts until Friday 15 March, from the museum’s collections which illustrate the story of Thurrock’s rich heritage.
The three most popular artefacts will then be showcased in the upcoming Thurrock Museum Collections on Tour later this year.
To get involved, residents can visit their local library or the Purfleet Community Hub to find out more about the shortlisted objects and vote for one object using a ballot box or online through the council’s website.
Profiles on each of the 10 artefacts will also appear in turn on Thurrock Museum’s Facebook and Twitter pages every Tuesday and Thursday.
The results will be announced on Wednesday 20 March and tour dates and locations released the following month.
Councillor Deborah Huelin, portfolio holder for communities, said: “Staff and volunteers have managed to whittle down Thurrock Museum’s extensive collection to a shortlist of 10 artefacts that they feel best represents the borough’s rich treasure trove of historical artefacts and memorabilia.
“Shortlisted artefacts include Iron Age currency found in Thurrock, a woman’s uniform from the Second World War and a clock and medal that was awarded to a dock worker for bravery during the 1900s.
“Make sure you register your vote online or by using a ballot box at your local library or hub.”
