Town boss criticises team’s effort

Brentwood Town 2, Dereham Town 4

BRENTWOOD boss Les Whitton boss criticised his side for their lack of effort after Saturday’s Ryman One North home defeat, saying: “We weren’t really at the races today. “We didn’t work hard enough, we gave the ball away and that’s not like us.”

The Blues got off to a bright start and got the ball forward well and  Robbie Rees saw an early header go over the bar. Rees then turned provider when his corner found Luke Edgar who whipped a shot just past the upright.

Brentwood were simply not clinical enough in front of goal and were shown how to score just before the break when Sam Borrer squared the ball to Nicky Howell who passed it into the net.

Any second half game plan the home side had was ruined two minutes into the half when Gary Starling scored with a superb free kick.

Brentwood got one back seven minutes later when Petrit Elbi found space outside the box before releasing a perfect right-footed shot just inside the post.

However, with virtually the next clear attack of the game the Magpies regained their two goal lead when Luke Tuttle scored from close range at the back post.

Carvell went wide for the home side who brought on Anthony Ryan and Sipho Mtyanda in search of a reply.

And a fourth Dereham goal followed with 15 minutes remaining when Adam Gusteron scored after Brentwood keeper Lloyd Anderson failed to deal with a cross.

Elbi bagged his second goal of the game in injury time, unfortunately is was a mere consolation for Whtton’s side.
