Cllr Rob Gledhill, Leader of Thurrock Council, speaking about the Belmont Road development, said: “I am aware that residents have expressed concerns about access issues to the Thurrock Regeneration Ltd (TRL) Belmont Road housing development site, through Parker Road, as well as to the temporary loss of open space on Parker Road Park whilst the site is developed.
“In order to deal with the concerns being raised, I have explained those issues to them and asked Thurrock Regeneration Limited (TRL), who are the company responsible for the development, to review access options to the site again, taking into account the legitimate concerns of residents and views of the Planning Committee when this development was considered.
“Whilst this review is being completed, I have asked that the public meeting for 4 June is postponed so that the issues raised can be fully considered in detail by TRL before a full update is provided back to residents. The council will of course attend the resident meeting and will ensure TRL are also present to communicate their reconsidered proposals.
“The role of TRL is to take on sites that developers ignore because of difficulties such as this. Whilst the scheme is a really important and will bring forward much needed homes in the borough, in particular it will deliver 28 new Council properties to provide essential homes for those waiting for a property, it does not mean that it will be done at any cost. However, I have been clear, access to this site must be appropriate and that TRL must take into account the concerns of residents.”
