St Bees to Robin Hood Bay in support of charity

The intrepid walkers are raising money for CLIC Sargent

192 miles in 12 days

A team of four intrepid Essex-based Stansted Airport employees are setting off on a long-distance coast to coast walk to raise vital funds for children and young people’s cancer support charity CLIC Sargent.

On May 2 Alan Rebbeck, aged 47,from Basildon, Fred Tincknell,67, Church Langley, Alex Currie, 54 originally from Glasgow now living in Colchester, and Stewart Howatson 53 originally from Annan Scottish Borders now living in Colchester, will depart from St Bees in Cumbria, overlooking the Irish Sea, to undertake the famous 192-mile Wainwright Coast to Coast walk.

They aim to arrive at Robin Hood Bay in North Yorkshire on the North Sea 12 days later after passing through three national parks, and tackling a total climb of approximately 7,467 metres (24,500 feet) on their journey.

In 2015 employees of Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the company that owns and operates London Stansted, Manchester and East Midlands airports chose CLIC Sargent as its first ever national charity partner, and pledged to raise £1 million.

Now, Alan, Fred, Alex and Stewart hope to add an additional £5,000 in sponsorship to the pot, and are calling for people to support them and donate what they can to help CLIC Sargent support young cancer patients and their families.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer support charity for children and young people aged 0-24 and their families. Its team of specialist CLIC Sargent Social Workers and Nurses work in hospitals and communities across the UK to limit the devastating impact of cancer.

Basildon’s Alan said: “It’s a huge challenge that we’ve set ourselves but we’ve been training hard and can’t wait to get started.

“Please dig deep and support us so that CLIC Sargent can be there for more families facing cancer when they need them most.”

Sam Scott, Corporate Fundraising Manager, CLIC Sargent, said: “Without the hard work of fundraisers like Alan, Fred, Alex and Stewart, so many children and young people would be facing the ordeal of cancer treatment without the support they need.
