Specials make pursuit arrests in Brentwood

Officers from our Special Constabulary have arrested two men today, Thursday 11 July, following a pursuit in Brentwood.

Special Inspector Steven Weaver and Special Sergeant James Herdman detained the men in Hall Lane shortly after midnight.

Both officers chased the men after they abandoned their vehicle following a short pursuit.
We received reports that the vehicle drove dangerously down a one-way road in the wrong direction in an attempt to escape.

Inspector Tom Mitchell, of Brentwood Community Policing Team, said: “Steven and James responded quickly after having their suspicions about a vehicle in our community.

“They used the advanced skills they have learned throughout their careers with the force to pursue the vehicle and detain these men.

“The work of all our officers, including those from the Special Constabulary, is helping to keep Brentwood safe and I’d like to thank both Steven and James for their actions.”

A 28-year-old man from Potter’s Bar has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, going equipped to steal and dangerous driving.

A 25-year-old man from Borehamwood has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped to steal.

A number of our officers have acquired skills in advanced driving and are trained in pursuits.
