The Essex Shire Horse Association’s 32nd annual Heavy Horse and Driving Show will be held at the Barleylands showground, Barleylands, Billericay, Essex CM11 2UD on Sunday, 14th July 2019.
Spectators will be able to see representatives from all the magnificent heavy horse breeds in action, some now on the UK rare breeds list, being driven, shown in hand and ridden, plus a whole host of horse and pony private driving classes from Hackneys to the Coaching Marathon.
Entries travel from all over the country to support the show which is an important date in the heavy horse enthusiasts’ calendar.
Attractions include demonstrations, vintage vehicles, classic cars, trade and craft stands, donkey rides, archery and children’s attractions.
There will be classes for heavy horses from all the breeds: Shire, Percheron, Suffolk and Clydesdales. Look out for the ridden mature horses in decorated harness, single and pairs of horses pulling agricultural implements and wagons, as well as the ever popular brewers’ drays in the trade turnout classes.
Young horsemen, from the age of 13 years to 17 years will also get their chance to show off their skills to the Judges with these huge horses in the Young Handler class.
The Light Horse driving section includes classes for private driving, Hackneys, light trade, pleasure driving, and style and performance.
The elegant coaching marathon will also be happening.
A tremendous day out for all the family and horse lovers generally.
The gates open at 8.30 a.m, when visitors can see the horses being prepared for the ring, and will close at approximately 5.00 p.m.
Admission: Adults £10.00. Children / Senior Citizens £8.00.
Children aged 14 and under and members free. There is also free parking.
