School raises money for Cathy

Teachers, pupils and parents from the Greensward Academy in Hockley, recently came together to raise money for Macmillan Cancer research after a much loved member of staff lost her life to cancer earlier this year.

They all took part in a specially arranged Hockley Park Run on Saturday November 10 and together raised over £400 for Cathy Bearwish who was a member of staff at the school who sadly died from cancer earlier this year.

Principle of Greensward Academy, Mrs K Scarnell said: “A huge thank you to everyone who turned up to take part in the park run and to everyone who donated money.
“We were very impressed with the number of people who came along to show their support for Mrs Bearwish.

“It was a real community event as members of her running club were there as well. It was a fitting tribute to a well-loved member of staff and over £400 was raised for Macmillan.
“It was so successful that we hope to make it an annual event from now on.

“We are also very grateful to the Hockley Park Run organisers for allowing Greensward to hold this event.”
