Nominations for sports & activity awards open


This October, sporting superstars from across the borough will come together to recognise their fantastic achievements at the Thurrock Sports & Physical Activity Awards.

Organised by Impulse Leisure – the charitable organisation behind Belhus Park, Blackshots and Corringham Leisure Centres – the awards will celebrate talent, commitment and determination to sport and physical activity in all forms.


The Thurrock Sports & Physical Activity Awards are the first-of-their-kind in the area, which is home to a wealth of diverse, inspirational athleticism.

They satisfy Impulse Leisure’s goal to drive social inclusion and inspire the next generation of sport and physical activity stars.
Candidates will range from rising and accomplished sports stars to those nurturing elite sporting talent or inspiring others to being more active.

Mike Baden, Chief Executive Officer at Impulse Leisure, said: “We’re delighted that we have the opportunity to shine a light on some of the fantastic sporting achievements at the heart of our community and inspire others to follow in their footsteps.
“Events like the Thurrock Sports and Physical Activity Awards are hugely important because they contribute to a strong culture of activeness.

“Anyone can enjoy physical activity – the challenge is getting people to take that first step towards it. These awards truly showcase just how diverse sport and fitness is in Thurrock.”

Nominations are now open. People can vote for groups and individuals across eleven specially chosen categories including Coach of the Year, Education Champion of the Year, Unsung Hero, services to Inclusive Sport and the eagerly anticipated Sports Personality of the Year.

Winners will go through to the judging panel for the Active Essex Sports Awards
Mike continued: “Community health and wellbeing is our priority here at Impulse Leisure. We are striving to set new benchmarks for active lifestyles in Thurrock and I think the Sports and Physical Activity Awards will play a huge part in that.

“With so much talent in our community, we’re expecting an array of positive nominations for athletes, teams and groups.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the Civic Hall, Grays on October 10th. This is your opportunity to nominate those people who have really made a difference to or through sport and physical activity in Thurrock, nominate now at The nomination deadline is Monday 9th September.
