Neighbourhood watch group growing quickly

Thurrock Neighbourhood Watch members and coordinators are working hard under the chairmanship of Roger Passfield to eradicate the crime within the area with the support of Essex police, Essex watch and Victim support team.
When reflecting on how the Neighbourhood Watch has succeeded, Mr Passfield said: “I have seen it grow in strength from 120 watches to now 320 and we are still expanding”.
On 7 February, Neighbourhood Watch, Victim support and Essex Watch members met with Jane Gardner – Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Essex at the HQ at Kelvedon Park, London Road to present the 2019 New Year Calendar to her.
Members discussed with Jane about upcoming programmes and what can be done for the society in order to keep the areas safe and peaceful for happy lives. Gardner expressed her views on the calendar saying: “It’s a really useful tool for residents and local businesses and helps to raise the profile of the great work that Neighbourhood Watch members do”.
Together, Neighbourhood Watch members, Essex Police, Essex watch and Victim support have agreed that conducting campaigns, meetings, exhibitions and stalls in the public events are the best ways to reach the common man.
As part of this awareness programme, New Year calendar was brought into Thurrock division first time with the guidance of Clive Stewart, Chairman of Essex Neighbourhood Watch.
Mr Stewart explained: “Members receive regular crime prevention advice and it achieves keeping crime down”.
Thurrock Neighbourhood Watch Chairman and his team co-ordinators started distributing New Year calendars of 10,000 existing members and targeting 10,000 new members this year.
Diana Golding, on behalf of Victim support also commented on the work of Thurrock Neighbourhood Watch.
She said: “Victim support and Neighbourhood Watch both contribute to promoting community spirit thus being aware of the needs of others.
“A calendar has been produced which not only shows dates but has excellent, useful information concerning these organisations”.
