Pupils at Monteagle Primary School welcomed the team from the local Amazon Delivery Station in Thurrock to celebrate the beginning of the third year of funding for the school’s Magic Breakfast programme.
Amazon is working with the national charity, Magic Breakfast, to provide funding for breakfast clubs in schools across the country.
Amazon’s Delivery Station in Thurrock stopped by their local breakfast club at Monteagle Primary School to chat with pupils and help dish up a healthy breakfast of cereals, bagels and juice.
Magic Breakfast has been working with the Monteagle Primary School to provide pupils with a healthy start to the day for four years.
Paul Campbell, Headteacher from Monteagle Primary School, said: “The Magic Breakfast partnership with Amazon had a big impact on our pupils and our school last year, and we’re all really pleased that the breakfast club will be supported again this year.
“We’re grateful for the continued support of Magic Breakfast and Amazon and we’re looking forward to another great year of eating, learning and growing together.”
As well as providing food for breakfast throughout the school year, Amazon’s support also pays for a specialist member of Magic Breakfast staff to work with the school to help improve the breakfast provision.
The breakfast club at Monteagle Primary School is one of 77 schools across the UK to benefit from Amazon funding as part of the company’s ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme, which is focused on giving all children an equal chance at succeeding in today’s digital society.
In 2017/18, Magic Breakfast provided healthy breakfasts and expert support to 480 schools in England and Scotland.
Magic Breakfast’s CEO, Alex Cunningham, added: “As a country, we need to give children the best possible chance for success.
“With a healthy breakfast inside them, children then have the fuel they need to be able to make the most of their important morning lessons.
“Unfortunately, not every child is able to have breakfast at home and so it is our mission, along with our partners, to support breakfast clubs in schools in areas of disadvantage across the UK.”
Amazon’s pledge to fund a million breakfasts in the 2018-19 school year will benefit children in 77 schools located close to Amazon’s offices and buildings across the country. Each Magic Breakfast consists of low-sugar, low-salt cereal, porridge, bagels and juice.
