Langdon Hills based teenage racing driver, Emily Linscott, embarks on round three of the Ginetta Junior Championship this coming weekend at Thruxton, the fastest race track in the UK, and you can watch it live on ITV4 on Sunday May 20.
With two rounds gone, her pace and driving has progressed massively, although her results are yet to be what she’s aiming for. She’s confident she can push for honours this weekend and is approaching her racing with a different mindset.
Emily said: “I’ve always tried to push myself to the limit and beyond in my racing. I’ve achieved a lot doing things this way, but I’ve realised I’m also trying to control things that aren’t controllable, like the other competitors’ driving, or gaining a tow in qualifying.
“This weekend, I’ll be changing the way I look at my racing, the aim is to concentrate on being the best I can be and forgetting about everything else, like podiums or top ten results. Obviously, these are what I’m striving for, but they’ll come along without me trying so hard for them, I’ll just focus on my driving and be more relaxed and we’ll see how things work out.”
Her recent test day at Thruxton was a huge leap in pace and consistency, she’s been able to gain so much confidence from; she was very fast, even with her talking ballast (driver coach) sat beside her.
“The additional weight of a driver coach in one of these cars makes a big difference to the lap times but my times today were extremely encouraging, and my consistency was bang on too”, Emily stated as she departed from what was clearly her most impressive test day to date.
As if to consolidate her own feelings and that of the team’s too, she’s just picked up two new sponsors for the remainder of the season and her management team are working on an offer she’s had from a team in the United States to test one of their cars, details of which will be announced soon.
