A women from Basildon has recently celebrated her 105th birthday
Kitty Bright, now resides in the Abbeyfields Care Home in Basildon but was born in Stepney and had two sisters and five brothers. Her first job was shelling almonds near Tower Bridge at the age of 14.
Kitty married her first husband at the age of 21 and had her first born a daughter but her husband unfortunately passed away.
Kitty married her second husband at the age of 29 and had two boys. During the war Kitty worked as a bus conductor then as a cook at a local school so she could be around for her children.
Once she retired Kitty took up bowls with her husband Ken which she found she had a natural flair for which led her to play for Essex county for a number of years. Kitty now a proud great – grandmother.
Kitty’s family, including her granddaughters and great grandchildren, spent the afternoon with her and brought in balloons and a beautiful birthday cake, complete with candles.
Residents and staff enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, with buffet, cakes and prosecco. To finish the day off everyone sang happy birthday and Kitty was in her element.
A proposed new building project for plans for more flats on the first floor has been announced at the Abbeyfield Octagon home later this year.
Residents and staff were shown the plans, which include a lift, and all being well the conversion and decorating works are due to commence at the end of August.
