The last spa experience I went to in 2017 felt like we just part of a money making machine, so myself and a friend drove up to The Spa at the Bedford Lodge Hotel in Newmarket in trepidation but luckily we were very pleasantly surprised.
We arrived at reception to polite and attentive staff, where we checked in swiftly for the Winter Warmer Day and were taken through to the lounge. There in our huge comfy chairs we received smoothie shots and water each to start.
Zoe, who was very helpful and friendly then took us for a walk round the spa and showed us to our lockers where we had slippers and a robe each.
The sauna and steam rooms were large and the steam round had a bed to lay down in, which I’ve never seen in a steam room before. The perfect way to cool down after the heat experiences was a basin with ice and ice cold water to rejuvenate your body and get the full hot and cold experience although I wasn’t brave enough and went back into the sauna. I then retreated to the decadent relaxation room which I was greeted with comfy sofas, magazines and soft music.
My treatment was delightful with the lovely Niamh. I was greeted by soft lighting and calming music. Niamh talked me through the treatment and every step of the way described to me what was next and why. First was a full body brush followed by an Espa body scrub. After the scrub Niamh applied the marine mud which is 100% natural mud from the Dead Sea.
This wrap has a multi-action treatment. Niamh said it aids dead skin removal, has natural anti-stress properties and is intensely moisturising.
The natural mud stayed on while I enjoyed the eye revitaliser, which felt amazing afterwards. After I had showered and removed the mud Niamh applied an Espa body cream I literally floated out of the room.
Niamh then took me through to the manicure and pedicure area, in which I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was the only one in there so it was utterly relaxing while I enjoyed a foot scrub and heated booties.
After the treatments we then enjoyed a delicious bowl of carrot and coriander soup and an Elderflower juice.
Overall I would highly recommend driving out of Essex and visiting The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel. It was not overcrowded of which a lot of spas seem to be in Essex, the lovely staff were attentive and the treatments excellent.
