Canvey Island 2, St Neots Town 2

THE Gulls and Saints will have to do it all again on Tuesday night after this FA Cup Second Qualifying Round draw  at The Prospects Stadium.

The visitors took an early lead through Lewis Hilliard as he took advantage of Canvey’s lack of concentration to hit a powerful shot past Josh Vickers with his left foot.

Canvey equalised on 19 minutes after they were awarded a penalty following a handball. Mike Jones stepped up only for his spot kick to be saved by Niall Conroy. However, left back Ashley Dumas reacted quickly and finished the rebound through Conroy’s legs.

The home side dominated the second half without being able to find another goal, and were made to pay on 74 minutes when St. Neots played a corner to the edge of the box. The ball was worked into the area when Edward Adjie’s shot was deflected into the back of the net.

This goal forced Canvey to play with more urgency and attacking intent, and this positive step was rewarded with eight minutes to play. Sheldon Sellears delivered a perfectly weighted through ball which Spencer Bellotti brought under control before slotting home in clinical fashion from just inside the area.

Canvey flooded forwards in the closing stages but the Saints held firm to secure a replay at The Hunts Post Community Stadium on Tuesday night.
