Grays move back to town is a step nearer after controversial planning decision opposed by Millers

THE likely green light for a controversial housing development could spark the return to Grays of the town’s football club.

One of the spin-offs from the wheeler-dealings behind the scenes of plans to develop the former London Fire Brigade Club at Aveley into a 501 home housing estate is funding for a new sports hall at Treetops School in Grays – and a knock-on effect to that is the school giving Grays Athletic land on which to develop a new ground.

 

Ironically, the scheme could come at a cost for one of the Borough’s other non-League clubs, Aveley FC, whose own ground move plans could be put in jeopardy by the switch of football pitches from the Fire Brigade Club site. Aveley, who are currently landlords to Grays Athletic at their own Mill Field ground, put in an objection to the new homes development.
