Enquirer Viewpoint

We all know that the UK is in the middle of a knife crime epidemic but I believe we are also in an epidemic of young people taking their own lives.

This is something that the government need to take action on now. Yesterday was the inquest into the death of Essex’s Love Island star Mike Thalassitis, who hung himself at the age of 26. The inquest found that he was taking anti – depressents and that cocaine and alcohol were in his system.

Why are so many 20 year olds taking their own lives, when this is the time they should be having the time of their lives, working, travelling, love and socialising.

As parents we try to get them through the hard times of their teenage years so they can be happy and content in their 20’s. So why are so many nowadays struggling in their 20’s?

I wonder how may of these young men and women who have taken their own lives was because of a moment of madness. Or is it drugs? Are they making them completely lose their minds for a few hours. If a suicide is planned then as a society we need to try to get through to them before it happens and the devestation that they will leave behind.

Whatever the reason we need to get to the bottom of it. We should not be attending funerals or inquests for any of these 20 year old’s. They should be out living their lives.
