Havering’s former and most popular Mayor Councillor Dilip Patel presented his cheques to the different charities he spent all last year raising money for.
Councillor Patel raised an amazing £82,000 the highest total ever raised for a Havering Mayor.
The three chosen charities were Havering Mind, the Rainbow Trust, and the Lennox Children’s Charity Trust.
Councillor Patel said: “It’s been an incredible journey. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Mayoral year.
“I would like to thank all the business who supported me in helping raising much needed funds for my chosen charities and I could have not done this without my committee who worked tirelessly organising various events in aid of the charities.
“I would also like to thank the East London Enquirer for all the support given to me particularly in covering my events. It’s helped to raise the profile of all the charities mentioned to me that the enquiries and support is up by 7 percent whilst It’s dropping in the rest of the country.”
Councillor Patel was called the ‘People’s Mayor’ as he spent most of his mayoral year talking to people and spending time with them at every event he attended.
He added “Finally I would like to thank all who supported me and giving me the opportunity to serve as First Citizen of the London Borough of Havering.
Councillor Patel was given a standing ovation at his last full council meeting before stepping down as Havering’s most popular Mayor.
