THIS week, 12-year-old Connor Wright, from Basildon, Essex, had the exclusive opportunity to meet celebrity YouTubers, The Sidemen, thanks to Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity, www.raysofsunshine.org.uk
Rays of Sunshine ambassadors, The Sidemen, took time out of filming for their YouTube channel to meet a group of children all living with serious illnesses, including Connor, at the YouTube Space in London.
Connor is currently living with a very serious type of sarcoma and germ cell cancer, which is so rare that it doesn’t have a name yet.
Due to his condition, Connor has had to endure intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment as well as multiple surgeries. At this stage of Connor’s condition, there is no cure available in the UK, so his family are working diligently to get him overseas to receive new treatment.
They have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his treatment and in the hope of finding a cure. Despite everything that Connor has been through, he is a very kind and positive young boy who loves gaming and playing Fortnite as well as watching gaming channels on YouTube, including The Sidemen.
In 2017, Rays of Sunshine granted Connor’s greatest wish to go to Disney World in Florida with his entire family and create precious memories together.
Once a child has a wish granted by Rays of Sunshine, they become part of the ‘Rays of Sunshine family’ and the charity continues to invite them along to events to create a positive distraction, reduce isolation and improve self-esteem. Knowing that Connor loves The Sidemen, the charity invited him to be a part of this special event in London.
The Sidemen is a group made up of seven British YouTube personalities and avid gamers.
The group, who currently have more than 4.4 million subscribers on their YouTube channel, also gifted the wish children signed copies of their book, ‘Sidemen: The Book’,.
Following the day, Helen, Connor’s mum, said: “Connor thoroughly enjoyed his day with The Sidemen. He loved how relaxed it was with them all hanging out and playing Fortnight together. It was so lovely for me to see him so happy doing what he loves to do most, playing Xbox with his favourite YouTubers. Thank you so much to The Sidemen and Rays of Sunshine for arranging this.”
Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity was formed in 2003 to brighten the lives of seriously ill young people and their families by granting wishes and providing ongoing.
