THE NATIONAL Business Awards Duke of York New Entrepreneur of the Year Award semi-finalists have been announced, and a Chelmsford businessman is in the runnings.
Alistair Smit, 40, from The Magic Thermodynamic Box in Chelmsford, will have to present a three minute pitch to an expert panel of judges and a live audience in Liverpool on Tuesday, 24 June against nine other semi-finalists.
Each semi finalist will present a pitch on their business model, key achievements and elements underpinning future growth.
The judging panel will include Ed Wray, co-founder of Betfair, Charmaine Eggberry, former Wayra director and CEO of Plan B Consulting, Thea Green. There will also be nails inc founder, Guy Rigby, Head of Entrepreneurs at Smith & Williamson and Simon Burckhardt, Managing Director of Vonage UK.
The panel will select five finalists based on pre-supplied entry forms, pitches and responses to questions from the panel and audience. The overall winner will be determined by a combination of judges’ scores and a public vote.
The Duke of York New Entrepreneur of the Year Award, supported by internet telephony provider Vonage, recognises those demonstrating the entrepreneurial aptitude and drive to build a successful enterprise. Judges will focus on the market opportunity identified, the model to capitalise on it, and how it has been executed within the first 18 months of trading.
Alistair Smit, Managing Director at The Magic Thermodynamic Box, said: “I am delighted to have been shortlisted as a semi-finalist and making the top 10. Our products challenge convention and we are converting the market place one person at a time.
“We are proud to be a British Manufacturer of Innovative Energy Saving products. We are also proud to be a British Exporter and thus far the products have been taken up in 13 countries around the world. Being recognised by the National Business Awards means a lot to me as it affirms what we have achieved thus far and will play a part in now helping us achieve even more.”
