Boro on song as Town say farewell

Farnborough 3, Brentwood Town 0

BRENTWOOD Town’s year-long stay in the Ryman Premier Division came to a disappointing end with a defeat to Farnborough at The Rushmoor Community Stadium.

There wasn’t much between the teams until the 21st minute when Farnborough took the lead thanks to a calamitous blunder from Town keeper, Ollie Bowles.

Full-back John Oyenuga delivered what looked to be an innocent-looking cross from out on the wing which floated towards the far post. There was no pressure on the young stopper, but it quickly became a moment he’ll want to forget as he fumbled the ball into his own net.

Bowles had very little else to do in the Brentwood net as the hosts sent a number of efforts high and wide. Instead, the Blues finished the half on top, but they were unable to score, although Petrit Elbi and Shad Ngandu went close.

After the break Brentwood’s challenge faded as Farnborough assumed control, looking to secure victory.

Jack Battie poked a shot wide early on before Charlie Allen wasted a glorious chance.

Tom Richardson made his return from injury, replacing Elbi to play the final 20 minutes as Brentwood hoped to shake things up in attack, but Farnborough were the hungrier side and doubled their lead in the 78th minute when Dennis Oli turned and low into the corner.

And there was still time for Boro to add a third as second half substitute Simon Glover conceded a penalty for bringing down Freddie Grant who picked himself up to score from the spot.
