Billericay dementia friendly

Billericay has secured recognition as a town as a dementia friendly community by dementia support charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.

The positive news is a culmination of a year’s work by the Billericay Dementia Action Alliance Steering Group hosted bimonthly at Anisha Grange Care Home.

In order to receive the recognition, the Billericay DAA which currently has 20 members including Billericay Striders, Santander, Billericay Town Council and Forget Me Not Memory Cafe submitted its action plan to the charity with three core objectives.

This included engaging with key stakeholders on Billericay High Street to become members of the DAA, promoting and aggregating dementia friendly initiatives in the town and hosting and championing bespoke events to raise awareness and funds to support local dementia support services.

The steering group officially received the recognition last week.

Billericay DAA Chairman, and Customer Relationship Manager at Anisha Grange, Carl Roberts: “It is fantastic that the Alzheimer’s Society has recognised the Billericay DAA’s action plan and Billericay as a town as a dementia friendly community.

“There have been many hours given by our members to creating this action plan and each of the 20 members each have their own individual plans.

“This was the easy part and now the hard work begins putting this plan into action and for us as a community to come together to make Billericay truly dementia friendly.”

The next Dementia Alliance meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th September at 2pm at Anisha Grange Care Home on Outwood Common Road.
