BARKING SHOOTING UPDATE: Two arrested and bailed, as tributes pour in for victim

A MURDER investigation is under way after a teenager was fatally shot in Barking on Sunday evening.

David Adegbite, 18, better known as ‘Dutch’ was shot in the head on Sunday at 7.09pm in St Ann’s on the Gascoine estate, after going to visit friends. He was taken by the London Ambulance Service to an East London hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10.25pm.

The post-mortem examination took place at Queens Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday.

Tributes have been paid to David by friends from NewVLc College, and a GoFundMe page has already raised £1,200 to help support the family.

The page says: “Our beloved Dutch, loved by many, was taken from us too soon. He was tragically shot Sunday evening and passed away three hours later.

“Please donate to this cause, if not for his funeral it will still go to his family who are in our thoughts and prayers in this time of great distress.

“Those of us who knew David would know he was very family orientated and we aim to support his family as much as we can.

“We hope the money we raise will lift some of the worries felt by his family. It’s more than just a donation, we’re giving David the send off he deserves, rest in peace my friend, always in our hearts.”

Police have arrested and bailed a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man in connection with the incident. Detectives have appealed for anyone with any information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo leads the investigation. He said: “I am continuing to appeal for anyone who was in the area of St Ann’s at around the time of the murder and who saw anything suspicious to contact police.

“My team continue to work to establish the series of events which led to this murder and, at this early stage, retain an open mind as to the motive.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8345 3715 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
