A LADY from South Ockendon has celebrated her 100th birthday recently.
Grace Bridge, formerly of South Stifford, now lives in the Christian Care Home at Cedar House in Stanford le Hope.
She turned 100 on the 26th November.
The Christian Care home had a celebration party at 4pm for Grace and her family and friends. Grace and her family had lunch first at 1pm.
She also received her 100th birthday card from the queen and from parliment.
Grace has lead a very fulfilling and interesting life.
She worked since she was 16 doing various jobs over the years.
She worked in retail in Grays in the early years and then worked in Hedleys soap factory in West Thurrock and an engineering firm during the 2nd world war.
Her husband was a Japanese prisoner of war in Changi camp and worked on the Burma railway. Grace finished her working life as a care assistant in South Ockendon Mental hospital.
She has 2 sons, 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
