Two men arrested following a suspected armed robbery in Rayleigh

Police have arrested two men on suspicion of armed robbery following an incident in Rayleigh on Sunday, January 7.

Armed police carried out warrants at an address in London Road, Rayleigh, at around 2.40am yesterday (Wednesday, January 10) and arrested a 27-year-old man from Rayleigh and a 35-year-old man from Basildon on suspicion of armed robbery.

They remain in custody for questioning.

Police received reports that two men entered M&S Confectioners in London Road at around 6.10am armed with what has been described as a gun and an axe. They demanded money and one of the men grabbed a member of staff.

The member of staff was not injured but pressed an alarm which caused the men to run off.
