On SaturdaY November 3, the Romford Film Foundation will bring a special screening of ‘The Man Who Got Carter’, the life story of independent film maker Michael Klinger, the man behind the 70’s cult film ‘Get Carter’, starring British legend Michael Caine.
Owner of the Romford Film Foundation Joe Sultana told The Enquirer: “The Foundation is proud and honoured to follow this by bringing to Romford a full day of films celebrating the life and work of independent filmmaker Michael Klinger.
For more than a decade Michael was the U.K’s most successful independent film producer. Keep the 3rd of November clear for this once in a lifetime experience.”
The day will begin with the first screening of three classic Michael Klinger films, Pulp, at 10am starring Michael Caine and Mickey Rooney, this is followed by Roman Polanski’s Cul-de-Sac.
Both films are considered classic’s in their own right and both have achieved cult status equally here in the UK and abroad.
These screenings will then be followed by the premiere showing of the brand new documentary ‘The Man Who Got Carter,’ about Michael Klinger, made by his son, Tony Klinger.
Michael was the son of poor immigrants and his story is the unbelievable rags to riches story of the man who went from nothing, to become the most successful independent film producer in the country, in less than ten years after starting out as an engineer, market trader, inventor and nightclub owner.
“I’m so proud to have made this film about my father,’ said Tony Klinger the films maker.
“His life and his films were a lesson to me that I was super lucky to have lived with and I’m excited to share that experience with a much wider audience.”
There will also be a question and answer session with Tony, who previously has made films such as ‘The Kids Are Alright’, starring The Who and about which he wrote the book, “The
Who and I” that is an award winning film maker, novelist, playwright and academic.
The finale for the evening will be a big screen showing of the Iconic and very special ‘Get Carter’ starring Michael Caine and directed by the legendary Mike Hodges.
These films were made to be seen on the big screen and will never be shown together again in this format anywhere in the world at anytime.
Having the filmmakers there to listen to and finally have a chance to question them on this or that is a unique memory to make and have.
