A MOTHER of two is representing Chelmsford in a battle for a prestigious Mrs UK title, despite having never entered a pageant before in her life.
Bollywood dance teacher Sarika Golchaa, 34, was named Mrs Chelmsford Galaxy in December based on an online submission after saying she wanted to challenge herself with something completely out of her comfort zone.
UK Galaxy Pageants put on competitions five different categories, with Sarika aiming to win Mrs Galaxy UK, for married women aged 18 or over.
Sarika, who lives with her husband and two children aged seven and four in Beaulieu Park, said: “I’m thoroughly enjoying myself, it’s a completely different experience all together.
“Leading up to pageants there’s all the preparation and raising funds for charity, and to possibly win the title for Chelmsford and Essex is really exciting.”
Sarika will compete against 34 women from across the country to be named Mrs Galaxy UK at the Park Hall Hotel, Lancashire, from 9-12 March. The winner will represent the UK at the Galaxy International Pageant held in Orlando.
In preparation for the pageant she has taken on charity work for the Christie’s Charity, which provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds for more than 40,000 cancer patients every year.
Christies has long been associated with UK Galaxy Pageants, but Sarika has also done work for cancer charities in the past and said that should she be crowned Mrs Galaxy UK, she would try to leverage that platform to raise more funds these charities.
To raise funds she has held free Bollywood lessons in schools, as well as other dance workshops and coffee mornings.
She added: “The response has been absolutely fantastic. I did a workshop in St Anne’s School last week and I was so happy to see seven and eight-year-olds having fun to the tune of Bollywood dancing. Parents have been very supportive of this effort as well.”
Sarika has also set up a justgiving page at www.justgiving.com/ fundraising/Sarika-Golchaa.
This page has so far raised over £300.
