A man carried out a horrific assault with an axe and an armed robbery in Westcliff on the same day has been jailed.
Jamie Sherfield, 34, of York Road, Southend, received four years for robbery and four years for grievous bodily harm, to run consecutively, at Basildon Crown Court yesterday, Thursday, August 2.
He admitted to the offences that day while Kerry Brown, 32, of Preston Road, Westcliff, was not found guilty of grievous bodily harm.
On Saturday, February 3, a man was attacked inside a property in Princes Street by Sherfield at around 1.10am.
He was struck in the hand, head, chest and knee with an axe, suffering serious injuries.
The victim managed to escape, flag down a passing officer and was taken to hospital for his injuries.
The same day, Sherfield walked into Savers in Hamlet Court Road at 2pm and threatened staff and customers with a knife.
He then left with a three-figure sum before he was arrested the following morning.
Investigating officer DC Simon Laurie, of Southend CID, said: “Sherfield carried out a targeted attack on the victim in his own home. He inflicted serious wounds using a dangerous weapon and even filmed the aftermath of the attack.
“Within the same day, he carried out a brazen robbery in a shop full of customers and staff while armed with knife.
“Sherfield is a dangerous individual who has now been sent to prison for many years.”
