A WONDERFUL new ship has joined the Cruise & Maritime Voyages fleet. Columbus is an impressive vessel (250m long) offering passengers a traditional cruising style in stylish surroundings.
Whether you are treating yourself to a mini cruise to Amsterdam and Antwerp, a 14-night cruise to the Canary Islands and Madeira or embarking upon a once-in-a-lifetime world cruise from its home port of Tilbury, Columbus offers many destinational adventures.
Stylish facilities on board give the ship an added vibrancy – it may not be your resort-style ship with bells on, but Columbus has a certain class and glorious surroundings that makes it the perfect choice for those looking for the ultimate experience and comfort when on their travels.
There’s all-singing, all-dancing entertainment with the talented Columbus show team and guest acts who will perform in six entertainment venues throughout the ship, including the impressive three-decked central Atrium, Dome Observatory & Nightclub and two-decked tiered Palladium Show Lounge.
Delicious cuisine is also something to look forward to and a taste of things to come was sampled in the Waterfront Restaurant at Columbus’s naming ceremony and launch party on Thursday night, with dishes from a ‘Gala Menu’ including: ‘Columbus’ Homemade Duck Liver Pate with layers of foie grass mousse, cream cheese, apple and marmalade, Surf and Turf – grilled filet mignon and lobster tail with potato rosti, grilled vegetables and truffle sauce, and for dessert ‘Columbus’ Baked Alaska with cherries jubilee. Delicious!
When not ashore experiencing the many excursions on offer on your Columbus cruise, onboard there’s a wealth of things to indulge in. Seven different lounges and bars including the Captain’s Club and Casino, Connexions, Raffles and Taverners Pub, two speciality coffee and tea shops, two deck bars, the new Crafter’s Studio for arts and crafts enthusiasts, a library, fully equipped gym plus a fabulous spa – the Jade Wellness Centre where you can enjoy pampering from top to toe.
Rest and relaxation is also guaranteed in your well-appointed cabin. The 775 throughout the ship are all highly furnished. There’s a choice of 64 deluxe balcony cabins and junior suites, which have been specially designed for those with balcony accommodation in mind.150 cabins are also allocated for solo cruisers.
Out on deck is the place to appreciate the panoramic ocean views as Columbus takes to the waves. Stroll around the expansive deck area, take a dip in two heated swimming pools or simply lie back, enjoy the sunshine and watch the large cinema-style screen for outdoor movies and sporting events.
Former newsreader and author Angela Rippon christened the ship and as its official godmother praised the wonderful new vessel and its amazing crew.
She commented: “Named after a man renowned for his courage and sense of adventure, Columbus will open up a new world, new horizons and destinations for travellers and make a lasting impression as the flagship of the CMV line. God speed and safe passage for everyone lucky enough to sail on her.”
