The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham can proudly boast that nine out of their ten schools are OFSTED rated either Good or Outstanding.
Schools recently inspected have had outstanding results to make this borough one of the top performing boroughs.
Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Evelyn Carpenter told The Enquirer: “This is not a quick fix, we have been working on this for a long time. As a Council we have a very strong partnership with our schools across the borough and we have developed a school’s federation that encourages good practice amongst schools. ”
Cllr Carpenter is very proud of the hard work schools are putting in and the high achievements produced.
“We have schools with good, strong leadership, as a Council we always look to the future and that is what we have been working on. We have some very motivated and inspirational teachers in the borough and Head Teachers who encourage best practice,” she said.
In April this year the borough introduced their Barking and Dagenham School Improvement Partnership that is owned mainly by schools and partly by the council.
“It is run as a business and the aim is to get every school in the borough to come together and share best practices and encourage each other to develop.
“Unfortunately the Government have drastically cut the funding we receive and as a council we still need to perform the same range of duties.
“We have developed this partnership so that schools can share resources, all schools can come together regardless of their tenure. Very strong schools can help other schools improve their learning plans and we encourage schools to do this.”
The Borough’s schools have also been praised for the pupil’s development as well as their high quality teaching. Cllr Carpenter continued: “Our school’s have outstanding teaching, but we also pride ourselves in helping each child find their path with rich programmes that help all abilities.
“We want our pupils to be proud of where they come from. We have some outstanding teachers here in Barking and Dagenham and the results we are achieving clearly demonstrates this.”
