Woman taken to hospital by Air Ambulance after Billericay crash

A WOMAN was taken away by air ambulance after a crash in Billericay on Friday, 29 January.

At 9am a white Ford Transit and a silver VW Beetle struck each other at the junction of Oak Lane and Gardiners Lane North.
Two Essex County Fire and Rescue Service crews from Basildon and one from Leigh-on-Sea went to the scene.

The incident involved two vehicles - a second casualty, a man, was released before the arrival of crews and suffered burns

Fire-fighters used specialist cutting equipment to free a woman trapped in her vehicle.

Crews were called by Ambulance Service paramedics to assist in cutting the woman free. She was trapped by her injuries.

At 9.49 am the incident commander reported that the woman had been freed and that crews were working with Ambulance paramedics to carry her to a waiting Air Ambulance.

The driver of the Beetle was airlifted to London’s Whitechapel Hospital after sustaining serious leg and hip injuries.

The 24-year-old woman from the Billericay area is in a stable condition.
The Transit driver is a 24-year-old man who was taken to Basildon University Hospital after sustaining minor injuries. He was discharged after receiving treatment.

A section of the road was closed for approximately four hours while emergency services dealt with the incident scene and forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries.
