WITH just days to go until the Britain in Bloom Judges arrive to Judge Bulphan, the village has fallen victim to thieves.
A new flower bed planted with massed Lavender has had a number of plants stolen.
Chair of Bulphan in Bloom, Kelly Fiford, said villagers are shocked and dismayed at the unusual theft.
She added: “It is sad that there are people out there that have no thought for others and all the hard work that goes into this type of community project. Teams of residents spent hours digging and planting, only to have it defaced just before judging”
Having heard the shocking news, local businessman Wesley Lester of Lester UK Ltd in Bulphan, donated the £210 needed to replace the stolen Lavender plants. Lester UK has a base in Bulphan Village and is a sponsor of Bulphan in Bloom.
Villagers will now be out in force this coming Wednesday to plant the new Lavender ready for judging day and new security measures have now been put in place to prevent this happening again.
Britain in Bloom Judges will cast their discerning eye over the colorful show of plants in the village this coming Thursday. Last year Bulphan scooped a Gold medal in the Anglia in Bloom Competition and was selected from hundreds of entrants to represent Anglia in the Britain in Bloom Competition. Bulphan is the only village in the South of England in this prestigious competition.
Villagers are judged for their community projects including landscaping, planting and cleaning up their environment.
