Unlucky Thurrock held in relegation battle

Thurrock 0, Havant and Waterlooville 0

THURROCK were desperately unlucky not to earn a Blue Square Bet South win after a dominant performance against visitors Havant at Ship Lane.

The first half was a quiet affair with Scott Jones hitting a long range effort over for Havant early on and Luke I’Anson shooting just wide from a similar distance for Thurrock.

The big talking point came when Lee Boylan was kicked in the penalty area in front of the assistant referee but no flag came to give the penalty.

Thurrock threw everything at their visitors in the second half, knowing that a win was needed in their battle to clumb off the foot of  the table and created chances, firstly with I’Anson hitting a 20 yarder well held by Lyall Beasley in the Hawks’ goal and then when Boylan expertly brought down Alex Osborn’s cross but volleyed over from close range.

The visitors then had two late chances, hitting the post in a goalmouth scramble and Dan Thompson hitting a shot straight at Craig Holloway but the game finished goalless.
