Two released in Priory Park murder

TWO men who had been originally arrested in connection with the murder of a chef outside of a classical concert in Southend last month have today been released without charge.

Reynald Duchene had attended an open-air classical concert in Priory Park on Saturday, 26 June.

The 37-year-old man from Arlington Square in South Woodham Ferrers was stabbed in the chest and collapsed at the junction of Priory Crescent and Victoria Avenue shortly after 11:30pm.

A post-mortem examination showed that the provisional cause of death was a single stab wound.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, from Southend were arrested a short time after the murder but have now been released without charge after previously being bailed.

On Wednesday, 30 June, Karl Wills was arrested in the town and subsequently charged with one count of murder. The 21-year-old unemployed man from Milton Close in Southend appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday, 6 July where he was further remanded in court custody prior to his appearance at the same court on Monday, 27 September.

A 23-year-old man of no fixed address was also arrested in connection with the murder. He is currently on police bail until Wednesday, 25 August pending further enquiries.
