Two hurt as car flips in crash

POLICE have appealed for witnesses after an early morning crash that left two people in hospital after a car hit a lamppost and garden wall.

Neither a 19-year-old girl from Canvey and a 27-year-old Basildon man were wearing seatbelts and were lucky to escape with their lives in an impact that wrote off the Green Vauxhall Astra when it crashed in in Dovervelt Road, Canvey Island, near the junction with Laars Avenue, at around 2.40am on Sunday.

The crash turned the vehicle onto its side and the girl, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was thrown clear through the side window. The driver was thrown into the back seat of the car, where firefighters from Leigh and Canvey discovered him trying to get out.

Both were taken to Southend hospital where the woman was treated for a head injury and the man for a fractured arm and collar bone.
