Trends unveiled

Wedding Fashion Show

By Nicola Moyne

WHEN it comes to weddings, the National Wedding Show has it covered. From bridal fashion and cake trends, to hen party options and confetti, there’s plenty of inspiration - which is why I headed to the event in London last month.
The National Wedding Show comes to London Olympia every February and October and Birmingham’s NEC every March and October, bringing with it a host of new ideas for bride and grooms across the country.
The catwalk show in particular is a great way to source inspiration, and this season it seems the dress is coming second to the veil.
In the last few years, brides have shied away from veils. But now they’re back with a vengeance, and anything goes.
Candy Anthony showcased a selection of stunning netted veils from the 40s and 50s, while Ellie & Charlotte favoured a more 1920s inspired collection. Bejeweled alice bands were also popular in the parade, as were prom style bridesmaids dresses (seen above) and slinkier numbers reminiscent of the emerald green dress worn by Keira Knightley in the film Atonement.
Fashion aside though, visitors to the show also got expert opinions on their floral arrangements, and how to plan and budget their big day. With more than 250 wedding experts on hand to make your dreams come true, no detail is left out, and brides walked away safe in the knowledge that their dream day can be turned into a reality.
“It is all too easy for newly engaged couples to become overwhelmed but all aspects of wedding planning are covered at the show,” a spokesperson explains. “So no matter if you are looking for a fairytale venue, a dashing outfit for your groom or a delicious cake, the National Wedding Show has everything you need, all under one roof.”
The event comes to Birmingham NEC from 5-7 March. For details, visit www.nationalweddingshow.co.uk
