232 schools within Essex have pledged to do more school sport by participating in Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week.
The week will run from 29 June to 3 July 2009 and aims to inspire millions of young people in 10,000 schools across Britain to take part in more sport.
Sally Hancock, Director of the Lloyds TSB London 2012 partnership commented; “It’s great that schools from Essex have already signed up. The Youth Sport Trust shares our aims and ambitions in increasing participation in the classroom and the community. The fact that schools in Essex have already registered to take part demonstrates that the region is leading the way in the provision of a balanced curriculum for students in the area. We hope that other schools will follow this lead and join Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week this year.”
One school partnership that has already signed up is the Shenfield School Sport Partnership, in Brentwood. Last year, the Shenfield School Sport Partnership, in Brentwood, arranged the Brentwood School Games for National School Sport Week. Each night of the week was for a different year group and gave students the opportunity to participate in several Olympic sports, including cycling, volleyball, waterpolo, table tennis and basketball.
Jane Wiles, Partnership Development Manager for the Shenfield School Sport Partnership, said: “School Sport Week is a great way of engaging children with sport and the children here across the Shenfield School Sport Partnership are very excited about the possibility of famous athletes visiting us. Incorporating the Olympic Games into Lloyds TSB National School Sport Week will enable us to make London 2012 relevant to the children and parents in our community.”
