Thousands of fundraisers flocked to Gloucester Park on Sunday to take part in Basildon's Race for Life.

Runners from across the county ran 5k in both morning and afternoon races to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Rain that had been forecast held off as runners ran, jogged and walked the 5k off-road course dressed in fancy dress ranging from a banana outfit to a team of sumo wrestlers.

The afternoon's race saw Jade Goody's mum and brides maids racing in memory of the reality television star who was diagnosed with cervical cancer and sadly passed away last year.

Such a great event, bringing the local community together to raise money, and awareness, for such a worthy cause. So proud to be part of it. Not so proud, however, of the idiots who stole the digital clock which should have been at the finish line.

I ran for the first time on Sunday in memory of my brother and mother-in-law. It was a fantastic if emotional day and am so proud of myself for managing to run the whole course in 34 mins. Not mad for a self-confessed couch potato :)
