Romford Raiders thrashed twice again

RAIDERS were hammered 0-8 at home to Peterborough Phantoms last night (Sunday).

James Ferrara opened the scoring in the fifth minute and goals from Warren Tait and Maris Ziedins effectively killed off the struggling home side by the first break. There was no more scoring until late in the middle period when two goals in 23 seconds from Brent Gough and Warren Tait - his fourth of the weekend - extended the lead to 5-0.

An early powerplay strike from James Knight in the final period and late markers from Brent Gough and James Spurr completed the scoring.

On Saturday Romford Raiders felt the heat as they were beaten 1-7 at Guildford Flames.

Four third period goals set up the win and superiority for Flames over the Raiders on the ice.

Gary Clarke opened the scoring early when he beat Charles Kaylor with a low shot just over a minute in.

Lukas Smital extended the advantage to a pair 28 seconds before the period timed out to offer the Flames a 2-0 lead at the break.

At 32:50 David Savage opened a three goal lead, but with just two ticks on the period clock the Raiders cut the deficit back to two with a Jozef Sladok goal.

Tom Duggan restored the three goal advantage at 45:07 and Rick Plant made it 5-1 not long after that.

Lubo Hurtaj slipped through the defensive net to go in alone on Kaylor before putting up the sixth goal.

Less than 30 seconds later Rick Plant got his stick on a Ben Austin shot from the blueline on the powerplay to cement the result.

On Saturday Raiders are at home to Milton Keynes Lightning, face off at 5.15pm before travelling to the Peterborough Phantoms the following day, face off at 5.30pm.
