Road crash leaves elderly woman in hospital

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road crash in Rayleigh which has left an elderly woman seriously injured in hospital.

The collision happened when a black Kia Rio struck the female pedestrian on Teignmouth Drive shortly after 12.30pm on Thursday, 16 August.

The 76-year-old local woman was conveyed by paramedics to Southend University Hospital where she is currently in a stable condition after sustaining serious head injuries.

The car driver, a 26-year-old local woman, was uninjured but was treated at the scene by paramedics for shock.

A section of the road was closed for approximately five hours while forensic collision investigators carried out their enquiries.
