Police renew appeal over hit and run that injured boy

POLICE have launched a fresh appeal for witnesses after a nine-year-old boy was left with serious leg and head injuries by a driver who then failed to stop after hitting him.

The boy was attempting to cross Whalebone Lane South, in Romford, on his bike at 9.13pm on 28 June when he was struck.

Witnesses told officers that they saw a black car with tinted windows driving erratically shortly before it hit the young victim, who required hospital treatment for a bleed to the brain and serious lacerations to the leg and ankle. Thankfully he soon made a good recovery and was discharged from hospital.

A man was arrested on 29 June and interviewed in connection with the incident, however no further action was taken against him.

Romford police are now asking anyone who might have information which could help to track down the driver to contact them on 020 7230 3908. Alternatively you can speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
