Owners of Lord’s Golf and Country Club have been left fearing the worst after a fire burnt down one of their club shop.
Firefighters were called at around 2.30am on Friday morning as flames ripped through the wooden ‘starter hut’ by the golf course.
Four units took an hour and a half to extinguish the blaze and were later commended after their quick response prevented the fire reaching the main building.
Jessica Govey, 18, daughter of owners Derick and Toni Govey, said: “Luckily the flames didn’t catch the main building so we are running the club as usual.
“The police seem to think it was an electrical fault on a buggy that caused the fire but if it is someone with a vendetta against us you just wonder what next?
“This time it was the changing room, will it be our house next time?”
The Enquirer covered the story of the Govey’s after they were the victims of a fake letter campaign last month which falsely claimed the club was in insolvency.
Since purchasing the golf club three years ago Mr and Mrs Govey have also received threatening texts and had a car burnt out on their driveway.
