Late try snatches draw for Chelmsford

NICK Hankin’s added time converted try snatched a well deserved 20-all draw for Chelmsford at Saffron Walden on Saturday.

Walden opened the scoring when Chelmsford lost the ball in the back of the scrum and their scrum half seized on this, the ball was passed to their fly half who chipped a kick over the Chelmsford backs and this was followed up by one of their centres to score a converted try.

Chelmsford replied with a typical try from skipper Kevin Prior, following good line out work from Richie Vintner for the catch and drive.

In the second half out of the blue, young centre Nick Hankin showed a clean pair of heels and broke through the Walden cover defence, beating several players in the process, to score a try underneath the posts, which duly converted by Tom Morrish to tie the match.

This weekend sees Chelmsford entertain local rivals Braintree at Coronation Park, kick off is at 2.30pm.
