A KARATE-INSTRUCTOR from a martial arts school in Billericay got a kick out of completing the Japan Karate Association’s ‘Kan-Geiko’ held at its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

Dave Paulus from Yushikai Karate Academy in Radford Crescent completed the Cold Winter Training Course last month.

The seven-day, intensive training course called ‘Kan-geiko’ started on Monday, 25 January and ran until Sunday, 31 January.

Dave said: “Although I still ache all over from the training, I would do it all over again and intend to return to Japan in April.

“I have got loads of new teaching ideas and techniques and am looking forward to sharing this new knowledge with my students here at the academy.”

Each morning started with all attendees meeting at the HQ Dojo (Training Hall) bright and early at 6am.

Dave was one of the few who managed to attend the training every day.

As the final day of practice concluded, all successful attendees were invited to return to the dojo later that morning for a special celebration, where JKA technical director, Sensei Osaka (Eighth Dan) presented the various weary individuals with a certificate of completion.

The certificate is now proudly displayed at the Yushikai Karate Academy Dojo.
