House fire claims life of man

A MAN has died following a fire at a house in Galleywood Road, Chelmsford this morning (Saturday, June 19).

Police officers were called by the fire service at 3.40am to a house in Galleywood Road. Two men had been inside the detached property and were being treated by ambulance crews on police arrival. Both men were taken to Broomfield Hospital, one man aged 33 was treated for smoke inhalation, the other man aged in his 40s who was also suffering smoke inhalation,  died a short time after arriving at hospital.  

Police are not treating the fire as suspicious, however a joint fire and police examination of the scene will take place later today to determine the cause of the fire. 

Anyone who was in the area in the early hours of this morning and has any information is asked to contact detectives at Chelmsford Police Station on 0300 333 4444.
