Hit and run leaves teen in hospital

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a road crash in Basildon in which a car failed to stop at the scene.

The collision happened when a man was struck by a light-coloured estate car near to the junction of Cranes Farm Road and Crompton Close between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday, 2 August. The car failed to stop at the scene and drove off at speed.

The 18-year-old local man, who had been with a friend at the time, managed to walk home but was taken to Basildon University Hospital by his friend where he remains in a stable condition after sustaining a serious head injury.

Investigating Officer, PC Rob Bray, said: "These young men had been walking home to the Noak Bridge area from Basildon Sporting Village when one of them was struck by this car. We would like to identify this car, its owner ascertain how the collision happened.”

Anyone with information in connection with this road crash is urged to contact investigating officers at Laindon Road Policing Unit on 101.
