Harry remembered at Great Ormond Street presentation

A FAMILY’s fundraising campaign in memory of their two-year-old son has achieved its goal.

Karen and Jim Smith from Billericay lost their son Harry  to leukemia but were inspired by his the hospital that battled to save his life and cared for him in his final days.

They have achieved their target of £23,500 to provide Great Ormond Street Hospital with a ‘Vital Sign' bedside monitor.

Harry fell ill just after Christmas 2008. From being diagnosed with cancer, he survived just six days, passing away at Great Ormond Street.

His parents wanted to give back something to the hospital which tried so hard to save their son, so decided to raise money for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Karen said: “We started in June with Harry’s Day at local pubs and we have done school fetes, dinner and dance and other small collections. We are totally over-whelmed by the support which has been shown from everyone, and to think that we have managed to raise enough money already for the monitor is amazing".

“Going back to the hospital and presenting the unit with the monitor was extremely emotional for both mysef and Jim, but we were so proud to be able to help other sick children and that is all thanks to everyone who has made a donation.

“We are going to continue with our fundraising.

“We will be holding Harry’s Day again this year in the high street on Saturday, 26 June. If anyone wants to get involved or has any thing which they may want to donate for the auction in the evening, then you can contact Karen by email foxgloves30 @hotmail.co.uk
