Hair comes the sun

Summer Hair1by Michelle Norris

AT long last the sun is finally shining and the skies are clear – yes, summer has arrived! But with the sun’s harmful UV rays taking their toll, even the strongest of locks can end up looking damaged and dull.

“When we’re out in the sunshine we always remember to protect our skin, but it’s equally important to protect our hair too,” says Steve Winder, Managing Director of Secrets Hairdressing. “Harmful UV rays cannot only lead to colour loss but also damage your scalp too.”

With salons in Rayleigh and Wickford, Secrets offer hair care products and treatments to keep your locks luscious, including Clynol’s new Care sun duo (£13.99 per pack).

“The message for summer 2012 is clear,” says Steve. “Feminine, relaxed and natural. For colour, we’ll be seeing lots of beautiful, natural shades along with more or a move towards darker roots and under sections. These purer shades will be supernatural. Luminous honey blondes, cool and deep varied shades of brunette and mid tones that mix the two. Brown will be looking for a beautiful palette of nut inspired tones where the colours have been smudged in places to add shine lines and luminescent glow.”

Even so, whether you’re colouring your hair or going natural, it’s important to keep your locks protected and treated.

“Give your hair a little treat at least once a week in the form of an intensive mask treatment,” suggests Steve. “This will inject all the nutrients that your hair needs along with any moisture lost from general day to day wear and tear.

“My advice is in the summer months to give you hair a break from intensive heat styling too,” he adds. “Try wearing hair wavy instead – the beach babe look is so effortlessly chic!”
