THE 70-year-old man killed in a crash at Rochford on Saturday has been named as David Churn of Plumberow Avenue, Hockley.
A retired plant driver, he had lived in Hockley for the past 17 months but previously lived in Great Wakering for 16 years.
He was married to Wendy, with whom he was planning an extended holiday to new Zealand, and leaves a son Gary, and grandchildren Jason and Robby.
Mr Churn was a keen sea and freshwater fisherman and owned his own boat.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash in Ashingdon Road, Rochford near the junction with Holt Farm Way which occurred at 12.40pm on Saturday when a maroon Toyota Hilux driven by Mr Churn collided with a blue Ford Fiesta and then left the road hitting a lamppost, electricity post and a tree.
The air ambulance attended and the doctor from the aircraft certified the Mr Churn as being dead.
No one else was injured in the crash although a woman passenger in the Fiesta suffered shock.
The Fiesta was being driven by a 61-year-old Basildon man. A possible cause of the crash is that Mr Churn was taken ill at the wheel.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or may have seen the Toyota immediately before is asked to contact the Rayleigh road policing unit on 0300 333 4444, where the officer dealing is PC Gavin Freeman.
